The three actors that I will discuss from this film will be Eddie Murphy, Jasmine Guy and Richard Pryor.
I would classify Jasmine Guy as the impersonator. In this particular film she plays a gangster’s mistress. In my opinion, she appeared well rehearsed, I felt she was impersonating her character and again in my opinion there was not a lot of authentic acting coming from her.
Richard Pryor would be classified as the interpreter. As a comedian, he had the natural ingredients to add to any role he played and make it come to life. Because he was the owner and operator of a night spot that was well known, he had to stand up to the non-blacks that were trying to take his business away from him and more. And him being who he is, his seriousness and comedian skills being displayed in one setting.
Eddie Murphy, I classified him as the star actor. Eddie is and has always been a popular on screen and off screen. His ability to show a serious side and comedy side during the film shows how versatile he is. The scene where the club has closed and all of the employees meet in Ray’s (Richard Pryor) office to discuss how much money each entity made for the night.
The category that I placed Eddie in, is one that I think he will remain in the star actor. Eddie Murphy is a very skilled actor who plays a lot of serious and funny roles. It is my belief that because he is in these types of roles, that he probably feels more comfortable in.
